Sheridan's Green Roof Project

We installed a small DIY green roof (294 sq. feet) this past week.  The roof we installed is not what people traditionally think of when thinking of a green roof.   Normally, that would include a new, fully installed roof.  With the system we used, called AquaLock from Freedom Garden Products, we were able to install over our existing roof.  The system is comprised of 42" panels made of recycled plastic and filled with foam that becomes the growing medium.

We are using native grasses as our first plant and will experiment over the Summer with growing vegetables that could be used in our lunch program.

Panels before planting. White covers also serve to creat a white, cool, roof effect.

The panels are wrapped in white, which creates a cool roof benefit as well.

The final planted product.
